8/10 Bruce Beatlefan (February 24, 2007)
George Harrison\'s Live in Japan certainly is an enjoyable listen, although it is missing the key element that makes a live album most compelling: the give and take between performer and audience (the only thing George ever says besides repeated Thank You\'s is \"Don\'t Be a Broadcaster\"--speaking of \"Devil\'s Radio\"--and making a reference to friend Eric Clapton\'s \"Insane Guitar\".) Maybe he was inhibited because couldn\'t speak Japanese, maybe he is, after all, the Quiet Beatle forever.

But he does sing his songs with respect and joy, and with some fascinating new arrangments. Eric Claption contributes his power and energy on guitars. Whenever I listen I am always surprised by the number of drop-dead classics that George Harrison has contributed to the world of rock and roll music--those songs that cause you to shout out loud when you hear the first couple notes. It was great for George to pull \"Piggies\" out of the hat; it sounds as though he has more fun on that silly song than on any of the others. A minor sidebar which was a shock for me was looking at the musicians credits and seeing the name Katie Kissoon as a backup singer. Good old Katie Kissoon, the singer of the immortal 1972(?) hit \"Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep\".
