A big McCartney`s album, beautiful songs.Sir Paul on total control.Very Very good.

not as good as band on the run album but it had its own share of shining moments. my only complain is, why paul included the song "you gave me the answer" in an era of hard rock.

I love this album almost as much as \"Band on the Run.\" The songs are all very good, and they encompass a lot - there\'s love songs (You Gave Me The Answer, Listen to What the Man Said), rock songs (Rock Show), nonsense songs (Magneto and Titanium Man), and just, well, weird songs, but weird in a good way (Spirits of Ancient Egypt). In my opinion, one of Macca\'s best.

One of the keys to appreciating Paul McCartney\'s music is to understand that the man follows his muse wherever it may take him. Some eight years ago Sir Paul had (with a little help from his friends) created an idea called Sgt. Pepper\'s L.H.C.B. and this caused a magazine called Rolling Stone to come into being and draw the line here and say \"this is what all rock and roll music should aspire to be\". Since that time, Paul has faithfully ignored that advice and followed his own muse to some odd places (from \"Helter Skelter\" to \"Kreen-Akrore\" to \"Mary Had a Little Lamb\" to \"C Moon\"). Well, he went and did the rocking, radio-friendly Band on the Run album and everyone got excited that Paul was gonna do this kind of stuff from now on. Wrong again! Paul\'s restless muse takes another sharp left turn and everyone bewails their disappointment in the Venus and Mars album for not being Sgt. Pepper or Band on the Run or whatever, ignoring the fact that this album is exquisite! Maybe not everything here will work for you (\"Rock Show\", for example, doesn\'t work for me), but the variety in the tracks is remarkable, and there are many superb moments which make the album very satisfying for me.

super effort, once again. It must be difficult to keep writing new material after so many great songs. I sure some douche out there will say, 'it is not as good as this or that" but the reality is that there is no need to compare Band on the Run with this or Abbey Road. It is very good on it own. This album shows versatility.

Okay, so it's not as good as Band on the Run. But really not much is. A worthy follow up. The McCartney penned tunes are excellent. Paul was "in the zone" for a couple of years here. Venus and Mars/Rock Show, a great rocker which I'm sure Paul knew would be a great opener for his 1976 tour. Love in Song is another little known gem. You Gave Me the Answer is a corny little ditty that makes me smile every time I hear it. Letting Go tries a little to hard to be Let Me Roll It but it still has it's moments. The big hit here was Listen To What The Man Said, which is an absolute classic piece of McCartney. Catchy and infectious. Ignore the non McCartney stuff. It's not worthy of being on the same album.
If you know this album you can review it. |
