9/10 john (September 10, 2005)
Gritty rock&roll to hard-rock (considerably before the days of "metal" definitions), perhaps ahead of their time.
It took a guy who immigrated from Germany, and as a young new American, shortened & changed his name; to fully appreciate the sensitivity of immigration. He cries out to his new country, hey, we're patriotic, we're on YOUR side, we want to belong--why don't you appreciate us?! Don't be hypocritical! (He instinctively knew only the freedom of America could fight the monsters of the world. As a child I was flabbergasted with this perception of patriotism; even now I suspect it is the correct interpretation. The best country is simply the one that is most willing to fight for human rights and dignity. Inherent freedom built into this Republic (via the U.S.Constitution), though it requires the citizens' attention to police their representatives and therefore keep themselves free, far outshone other countries that simply called themselves "republics" or whatever.)
