"Lady Double Dealer" is a classic.Great Album.
JON MILLER (March 6, 2005)
AMOTHER BRILLIANT ALBUM!
IT IS THE FUNKIEST ROCK ALBUM YOU'LL EVER HEAR! EVERY SONG IS GREAT. THE LYRICS ARE PROBABLY THE BEST OF ANY DEEP PURPLE ALBUM,AND THE HARMONIES CREATED BY DAVE AND GLENN WORK BEAUTIFULLY TOGETHER. YOU CAN'T HELP BUT SING ALONG. STORMBRINGER, DOUBLE DEALER ARE REMINISCENT OF THE ROCKIER STYLE FIRST HEARD ON BURN. RITCHIES FAVOURITES GYPSY AND SOLDIER OF FORTUNE SHOW WHERE HE WANTED TO GO WITH RAINBOW,AND ARE BOTH ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT. THE REST OF THE SONGS ARE ALL GREAT TOO,AND RITCHIE DESPITE WHAT HE HAS SAID PLAYS SOME BRILIANT GUITAR,EVEN IF IT WAS PLAYED ONLY WITH HIS THUMB AS HE HAS STATED. YES IT HAS A DIFFERENT SOUND-MUCH SMOOTHER-PARTLY DOWN TO JONS EXPERIMENTATION WITH THE SYNTH AND RITCHIES USE OF SLIDE,BUT THE MUSIC ITSELF IS EXCELLENT. IT IS THE ONE ALBUM THAT COULD REALLY DO WITH A REMIX,AS AN INSTRUMENTAL VERSION OF HIGHBALL SHOOTER HAS MUCH MORE GUITAR ON IT THAN THE FINISHED SONG WITH VOCALS ON THE ALBUM. IN FACT I DON'T THINK ANY MEMBER OF DEEP PURPLE HAS CREATED A BETTER ALBUM,AS A WHOLE THAN THIS ONE!
Chris and Pete (April 23, 2004)
This is probably the best album ever put together by Purple. Its strange to us that this album is so disrespected, its got it all, good licks, a good groove on most tracks, atmosphere, and have you aver tried playing along with it? We have, its ace. Loads of clever harmonies, use of the gypsy scale, . Blackmore appears to have not wanted to take part in the making of this album, but his signature is in every song, wether he likes it or not. Glen, if rumour is true, did a great job of pasting this artistic fall out together. Its got a totally different feel to all the other albums. Its sounds as if the band werent trying too hard to please, they were just making music instead. Why has the funk aspect of this album been so under appreciated, in the seventies Little feat, Free, The Alex Harvey Band, and so on were experimenting with this great idea. Van Halen did the same thing later on. Give it a listen all you out there who havent had the benefit/pleasure of hearing an adictive album.
Carlo (February 26, 2004)
I first heard this album more than ten years ago and i liked it very much then. Out of curiosity I listened to it again a few days ago and I was very surprised that it still holds up. Blackmore's guitar solo in Hold On is amazing, and Love Don't Mean A Thing is a very underrated song. The vocals are excellent, and so are most of the songs(I find High Ball Shooter too... corny)and The Gypsy is worth the rediscovery.
If you know this album you can review it. |
