6/10 Bruce Beatlefan (July 22, 2005)
It is absurd to compare this collection of songs to "Please Please Me" et.seq. as this is not a true Beatles album. But on its own merit it sure is enjoyable. Recalling the playfulness of the Beatles throughout their heyday it is easy to see why they connected with Mr. Sheridan--he too apprehended these rock 'n roll standards with a enjoyable sense of fun--particularly "Sweet Georgia Brown". I am pleasantly impressed with his original compositions "Why", "Do It Some More", and "Just You and Me". The two Beatles-only tracks "Ain't She Sweet" and "Cry For a Shadow" are worthy of inclusion in the Beatles canon--the latter song could easily have enhanced the "Please Please Me" album, perhaps bumping off "A Taste of Honey".
