5/10 Floyd Fan (June 25, 2004)
Was impossible to enjoy this one after becoming hooked on the 5 previous Pink Floyd albums. Gave this one away after listening to it twice, that may have been a big mistake because many people absolutely praise this album. Suppose being spoiled by the likes of 'Meddle', 'Dark Side of the Moon', 'Wish you were here', 'Animals' and 'The Wall' made it extremely hard to truly appreciate 'the Final cut'. It was a matter of comparing the 'new' to the 'old' and that isn't the best way to judge an album. At the time I was listening to the others regularly and the 'Final Cut' just didnt seem to have the standout sound or charisma of the others not even close. It seemed weak, unfocused(as compared to the others), tired even... showing the tell tale signs of a spectacular band on its way out. Ive been contemplating buying this one again now that the others have begun to fade a bit over the years, that should offer up a clean slate to judge it by. but I do know for certain that creatively and talent wise it doesnt compare in any way shape or form to the others.
10/10 julie pearson (February 21, 2004)
fantastic album, very expressive of the 'thatcher' days, the emotion is within the music. Waters is a talented songwriter of our time.
