Random thoughts on Paul McCartney\'s CD Give My Regards to Broadstreet:
(1) I never saw the movie. All the critics say not to, but those same critics told me to pay no attention to McCartney\'s post-Beatle career so they\'re probably all wet.
(2) Three new songs (four if you count that closing-credit muzak, five if you count \"Eleanor\'s Dream\", which is reminiscent of George Martin\'s incidental movie music from Help et al.). \"No More Lonely Nights\" is a legitimate McCartney classic--superb (with much credit going to David Gilmour for a memorable guitar fadeout). The others, \"Not Such a Bad Boy\" and \"No Values\" are okay.
(3) What is it with Paul McCartney and these dorky album covers?? Give My Regards... makes four in a row (McCartney II, Tug of War, Pipes of Peace) in which he looks clueless. Thank goodness he comes back to his senses for Press to Play, probably his best-ever cover.
(4) Paul blows an opportunity to take some strong-but-obscure Wings tracks (like \"Letting Go\" or \"Beware My Love\") and bring them back to the limelight. The songs he chose hit me as too recent (Tug of War and Pipes of Peace tracks, less than two years old) or too safe (can\'t-miss Beatles classics).
(5) Remember the Paul McCartney hue and cry over the Phil Spectorized \"Long and Winding Road\"? McCartney wanted to shoot the guy for adding the strings and the heavenly choir. Now Paul gets his shot to \'do it right\'. And what do we get? Strings and a heavenly choir!!
(6) Is this among my favorite Paul McCartney CD\'s? No. Am I sorry that I paid for it? No. It\'s cool.

i\'m sorry but this album is great and i think anyone who can\'t say they enjoy it are far from being true mccartney fans and i\'m pretty sure paul mccartney is very proud of this album as he should be.

Siempre me gustó la canción "No More Lonely Nights" por el solo final de guitarra, el que me "transportaba" (y me transporta aún!!), tenía "algo" ese solo que me dejaba "pegado" (como decimos en Chile), sin desmerecer la canción misma. Ya en ese año '84, escuchaba mucho a Pink Floyd (tenía 18 años). El misterio se aclaró años después. Fué cuando me enteré de que el responsable de ese mágico solo de guitarra era nada menos que David Gilmour!!. En ese momento entendí porqué me gustaba tanto (y me gusta) aquél solo de guitarra. También concluí que Gilmour es un guitarrista con sello propio, único. La guitarra de Pink Floyd.
Han pasado 21 años y siempre he contado esta anécdota, la recuerdo con mucho cariño. Es primera vez que la cuento por internet y espero que alguien por ahí la lea, posiblemente habrá alguien que haya tenido una experiencia similar.
Hay músicos instrumentistas que, toquen con quien toquen, se les reconoce "a primer oido" y debe ser porque su instrumento,sea el que sea, es una especia de prolongación de sus cuerpos y de sus mentes, lo que hace que el sonido creado por ellos sea único, con sello propio, inigualable...

I didn't like the movie and I don't like the album. The whole project was a disaster for Paul. I wish he didn't waste so much time in his career with this mess. I'm sure he wishes that too.
