JON MILLER (March 6, 2005)
THIS IS A MASTERPIECE.
INTRODUCING DAVID COVERDALE AND GLENN HUGHES IT IS REALLY A COMPLETELY NEW BAND. LYRICALLY IT IS MUCH MORE SOPHISTICATED THAN ANY OF THE IAN GILLAN ALBUMS,AND HAS GREAT HARMONIES FROM DAVID AND GLENN. IT HAS A NEW STYLE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT TO ANY OF THE EARLIER ALBUMS AND REINTRODUCES US TO THE FUNK FIRST HEARD ON FIREBALL. MISTREATED HAS TO BE ONE OF THE VERY BEST DEEP PURPLE SONGS EVER,AND IS THE BEST BLUES SONG OF ALL TIME,ALBEIT VERY DIFFERENT TO ANY OTHER BLUES SONG FROM ANY OTHER ARTIST. THE ONLY SONG I DON'T REALLY LIKE IS MIGHT JUST TAKE YOUR LIFE WHICH IS A BIT OF A PLODDER. THE HIGH ENERGY OF LAYDOWN STAYDOWN AND YOU FOOL NONE AND THE WONDERFULLY CATCHY WHATS GOIN ON HERE ARE ALL WONDERFUL. FOR ME THE BEST TRACK ON THE ALBUM IS SAILAWAY . A200 AN EXPERIMENTAL WORKOUT FOR JONS NEW SYNTHS HAS AN ABSOLUTLEY AMAZING SOLO FROM RITCHIE WHICH COMES OUT OF NOWHERE. |
