Everything that made George Harrison great is showcased in this beautiful song, one of his finest ever. His lyrics are yearning, optimistic, spiritually sensitive, wise, and challenging. The song gathers momentum as it moves along, much in the tradition of other Harrison classics like "Living in the Material World" and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". Best of all is the orchestration: George overlays one of his most expressive slide guitar sounds (the solo brings tears to my eyes!) over some intense strings(?) (they sound like strings, although none are credited in the notes). The cherry on top is the little hop-and-a-skip transition between verses, the kind of touch Harrison has effectively used on occasion before ("Old Brown Shoe", "His Name is Legs"). Too bad so few folks, even Harrison fans, know this one. |
