Average song rating Early listenings to "House of Wax" caused me to pick up the album credits and search for the involvement of old cronies David Gilmour and/or Alan Parsons, as there is a distinct flavor of Dark Side of the Moon/Wish You Were Here era Pink Floyd in this song. Nope, he did it all himself.

This is a wonderful, astonishing track which convinces me that Paul McCartney, working solo, still yearns to surround himself with a permanent group to produce the ensemble sound. In his career of tinkering with a vast variety of different pop sounds, he never really immerses himself in the iconic 1960-70's groups the way he does on this CD ("Only Mama Knows", "House of Wax", "Nod Your Head").
The moment that "House of Wax" breaks into the guitar solo is one of those moments where I cannot help dropping whatever I'm doing to get into some serious air guitaring!

Lyrics

Lightning hits the house of wax
Poets spill out on the street
To set alight the incomplete
Remainders of the future

Hidden in the yard. Hidden in the yard.

Thunder drowns the trumpets blast
Poets scatter through the night
But they can only dream of flight
Away from their confusion

Hidden in the yard. Undemeath the wall
Buried deep below a thousand layers lay
The answer to it all

Lightning hits the house of wax
Woman scream and run around
To dance upon the battleground
Like wild demented horses

Hidden in the yard. Undemeath the wall
Buried deep below a thousand layers lay
The answer to it all
