By this time it is a common practice in Beach Boys albums to lead the album off with a strong Mike Love vocal, to be followed by a strong Brian Wilson lead vocal, perhaps fueling a desired rivalry between the two most standout members... "Fun Fun Fun" is one of the finest B.Wilson/Love collaborations. It opens with a Chuck Berry guitar lick and is very similar to one of Berry's great character sketches (such as "Sweet Little Sixteen" or "Brown-eyed Handsome Man"). Mike Love triumphs with one of his finest lyrics about a fun-loving tomboyish girl. |
