The Day Begins (Peter Knight) - 4:08 / Morning Glory

Average song rating "The Day Begins" is a majestic orchestral piece which works as an overture to the album. Composed by Peter Knight and performed by the orchestra (no Moody Blues are heard in this track), the music assembles strains of most of the subsequent songs: "Dawn is a Feeling", "Another Morning", "Tuesday Afternoon", and "Nights in White Satin". Graeme Edge caps the music off with a spoken-word passage, taking this album far away from anything ever heard previously in rock and roll music. Wonderful beginning to a unique album. Lyrics

Cold hearted orb that rules the night,
Removes the colours from our sight,
Red is gray and yellow white,
But we decide which is right.
And which is an illusion?
Pinprick holes in a colourless sky,
Let insipid figures of light pass by,
The mighty light of ten thousand suns,
Challenges infinity and is soon gone.
Night time, to some a brief interlude,
To others the fear of solitude.
Brave Helios wake up your steads,
Bring the warmth the countryside needs.
