"Melancholy Man" was the closest that Michael Pinder got to a commercially successful hit single (in fact, it was #1 in France). Although I think he has written better songs, "Melancholy Man" was perhaps his most easily accessible and uncluttered Moody Blues track, and thus remains arguably his signature song.
