Originally take one of Junk, on which Paul added mellotron and percussion in an overdub. Somehow this version sounds more complete than Junk and it almost sounds as a soundtrack for a film. I prefer this version. The piano gives the song a nice touch here. |

Most Beatle fans know the story of "Yesterday"--Paul's little miracle of a melody to which he gave the temporary lyric, "Scrambled Egg / Oh my darling how I love your legs..." until he was able to write a more suitable lyric. This song, "Junk", seems to have suffered the fate of being released while it was still in its "Scrambled Eggs" phase. It is a magnificent melody, and Paul had had it in his pocket for at least a couple of years (it failed to make the cut for the White Album). I would bet money that the lyrics we know for this song were meant to be provisional lyrics, but Paul either got impatient or simply couldn't come up with better lyrics. |
