A song for John. Well sung by Paul. Not a bad song, but far too long. Why is Paul repeating himself again and again? Every instrumental verse should have been deleted, for it adds nothing to Paul's message. Had it been minimalised to about two minutes, it would've been a far better song in my humble opinion. |

A McCartney solo performance, as it was recorded during the Ram sessions, which explains the light touches of horns accompanying Paul's piano and vocals. Paul is subdued and vulnerable as he addresses John Lennon about their threatened friendship and John's personal attacks on Linda. The melody is easily accessible and slightly reminiscent of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". Paul includes an intriguing lyric: "Dear Friend, throw the wine, I'm in love with a friend of mine...". Is 'throw the wine' an English expression which means something on the order of 'congratulate me' ? |

Lyrics
Dear friend, what's the time?
Is this really the borderline?
Does it really mean so much to you?
Are you afraid, or is it true?
Dear friend, throw the wine,
I'm in love with a friend of mine.
Really truly, young and newly wed.
Are you a fool, or is it true?
Are you afraid, or is it true?
