Old Siam Sir

Average song rating In the age of punk and new wave Paul recorded Old Siam Sir. A type of song that maybe takes the basic stuff of punk to a higher level. His vocals are outstanding. The break at 1.16 is simply great. Maybe the piano lick gets a little annoying after a while. Wonderful band-sound and Steve and Laurence are doing a great job in here. The band goes really wild at 3.45 and Paul throws in some more (somewhat silly) lyrics. Bobber May 18, 2012
Average song rating There is nothing more stubborn than a record reviewer with his/her mind made up. This song, featuring one of the finest three-power-guitar combos I have ever heard (Paul, Laurence Juber, and Denny Laine) was simply dismissed as "forced arena rock" as though that makes it automatically bad--the same people who chastised Paul for not rocking like he used to. They're the ones missing out. This is a superb track with admittedly lightweight lyrics (not profound and meaningful like "Helter Skelter" was) but I can listen to those sizzling guitar breaks, particularly the last fadeout, all day long (the "I'm Getting Closer" fadeout is every bit as hot). The backlash against Paul at this stage of his career was as ludicrous as it was inexplicable. Bruce Beatlefan November 8, 2006

Lyrics

In a village in old siam, sir,
Lived a lady who lost her way.
In an effort to find her man, sir,
She found herself in old u.k.

She waited round in walthanstow,
She scouted round in scarborough,
She waited round in walthanstow,
She skated round in scarborough.

In a village in old eastham, sir,
She met a fellow who made her reel.
Took her rushes to show his mam, sir,
Met his dad at the wedding meal.

In a letter from old siam, sir,
Came a terrible tale of woe.
She decided the only answer
Was to get up a pile of dough.

She waited round in walthanstow,
She scouted round in scarborough,
Waited round in walthanstow,
She scouted round in scarborough.

When a relative to her man, sir,
He directed her not to stay.
In a village in old siam, sir,
Lived a lady who lost her way.

Oh!
Oh yeah!
Oh yeah!

In a village in old siam, sir,
Lived a lady who lost her way.
In an effort to find her man, sir,
Found herself in old U.K.

Waited round in walthanstow,
Scouted round in scarborough,
Waited round in walthanstow,
Scouted round in scarborough.

In a village in old siam, sir,
Lived a lady who lost her way.
In an effort to find her man, sir,
Found herself in old u.k.

Walthanstow.

Scarborough.
