When a guy writes music for fifty years of his life some interesting contrasts present themselves. Consider "Don't Be Careless Love" alongside the 1967 McCartney classic "She's Leaving Home". Amazing, huh? This is a harrowing song which Paul renders with a harrowing vocal, with some of the most harrowing and vivid lyrics he has ever written (undoubtedly with a lot of help from co-writer MacManus). Every fiftiesh parent perhaps sometime ago perfectly identified with the young girl of "She's Leaving Home"--that very same person perfectly identifies with the helpless fears articulated so well in "Don't Be Careless Love". |
