Interpretation
Life is full of disappointments, but that doesn't stop people from dreaming. Still many disappointments stem from the emptiness of the dream which doesn't necessarily focus on the things that really matter in life. Several examples are cited. In the first verse, the example is a man dressing sharp for a night on the town but still not catching the eye of the girls. In the second verse, a person is working with the dream of an exotic vacation only to have the vacation spoiled when it finally comes. In the final verse, a big star is on top of the world while on stage, but he still feels the emptiness of being so far from home. This final example is not surprising from Dennis, as his devotion to his wife and family at home is a common theme, expecially in the N1 hit Babe from the previous album. The chorus drives home the theme by citing the example of the ancient Pharoahs who tried in vain to attain immortality.
