Armenia City in the Sky

Average song rating A unique song in The Who's library, perhaps their only true venture into psychedelic music (albeit more resembling the "bubblegum" psychedelic music of Strawberry Alarm Clock's "Incense and Peppermints" or The Monkees "Porpoise Song"). The song was written by a fellow named Speedy Keen, a friend of Townshend's and a toiler in the British band scene (he later was a member of Thunderclap Newman and wrote their most noteworthy song "Something in the Air"). The song features some terrific guitar distortion, feedback, and a shrieking high-pitched vocal from Roger Daltrey (it is Daltrey, is it not?), the likes of which we are never to hear again. A wonderous listen! Bruce Beatlefan February 20, 2008

Lyrics

Monday... Tuesday... Wednesday... Thursday... Friday... Saturday... Sunday...

If you're troubled and you can't relax
Close your eyes and think of this
If the rumors floating in your head all turn to facts
Close your eyes and think of this

Armenia, city in the sky
Armenia, city in the sky

If you ever want to lose some time
Just take off, there's no risk
If you ever want to disappear
Just take off, and think of this

Armenia, city in the sky
Armenia, city in the sky

The sky is glass, the sea is brown
And everyone is upside-down

Armenia, city in the sky
Armenia, city in the sky

Freak out!
Freak out!
